Course overview

Do you enjoy working with children?

Do you have the patience to handle challenging situations?
This may be the start of your new career!

You will explore how to work in a school setting, supporting a teacher.

What will I study?

You will be introduced to:

  • the role of a teaching assistant
  • the characteristics of a good teaching assistant
  • communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults.
  • equality, diversity and inclusion
  • safeguarding the welfare of children and young people
  • how to assess a learner’s progress

Assessment method

Throughout the course, you will receive feedback from your tutor. You will be assessed using various assessment methods including:

  • online and paper-based assessments
  • role play
  • individual and group work

You will also learn the skills to self-reflect and evaluate your own progress.

Entry requirements

Whilst there are no formal entry requirements, you should be able to understand, read and follow verbal instructions.

  • any relevant certificates
